McLean commits to Allen Community College

18U outfielder Justin McLean, a veteran with the Nationals as he enters his fourth season, has announced his commitment to Allen Community College in Iola, Kansas.

The Allen Red Devils compete in one of the top NJCAA DI conferences in the nation and the club finished with a winning record (31-21) in 2019, also making an appearance in the postseason.

It wasn't just stepping into the box against some of the nation's top schools that had McLean interested in Allen but he says the coaching and facilities also played a big role in his decision.

"Allen has a great group of knowledgeable coaches that I know will help further my development and get me ready for the next level. They also have some great facilities that I can't wait to be at and use everyday," explains McLean, a 6-foot-1, 175-pound Kitchener native.

As McLean prepares to head for the Midwest following his senior year, he acklowedges the most recent junior college trip through Kansas, Iowa and Illinois helped find which areas of his game need improvement so he will be ready to compete at the college level.

"The JuCo trip is extremely important. Not only does it put you in front of college coaches but it gives you an idea of what it takes to play at the next level. It shows you what you need to improve on over the winter to be ready to compete at the college level and to me that was the most important part," explained McLean.

McLean becomes the third player from our 18U team to commit this winter.
